Material fieldnotes / Quartz

Quartz countertops in Oklahoma City.

Before a color becomes a quote.

Choose the exact product and finish, check its heat and sunlight limits, then price the complete installed job. A small sample and a square-foot price leave important decisions unresolved.

Independent buyer guidance, not an installer. We have no supplier or contractor partnership and do not sell, reserve or install countertops.

01 / IDENTITY

What are you actually buying?

Engineered quartz and natural quartzite are different materials. Stratus lists quartzite in its natural-stone line, separately from StratusQuartz. A quartzite-look design is not proof that a surface is quarried quartzite. Stratus product FAQ.

Product language also changes. MSI now describes Q as an engineered surface made with minerals, glass and resin. That is why this guide does not assign one quartz percentage to every brand or collection. Ask for the selected product’s current technical information. MSI’s current Q definition.

Write down more than “white quartz.”

Record the manufacturer, collection, color or product code, finish and thickness. Attach the care guide and warranty for that exact selection. Keep proposed substitutes separately identified.

Still choosing between categories? Start with the granite, quartz, quartzite and marble comparison. This page is for the next step: choosing an identifiable engineered product.

02 / APPEARANCE

A sample is a starting point, not a layout.

MSI’s installation guidance says samples cannot show the whole design, color and pattern can vary, and seams will be visible. Even a matching lot and bundle number is not a guarantee of color matching. MSI Q installation guidelines (PDF).

At home

Ask to view a sample of the actual finish beside your cabinet and backsplash choices, in daylight and under the room’s lights. Look at it flat and upright. These are our comparison suggestions, not a manufacturer test.

Before fabrication

Ask to review the selected slabs and proposed layout together. Mark vein direction, joins, a waterfall return and any backsplash pieces. Ask what the finished edge will look like. Put agreed appearance decisions in writing.

The useful question: “What can I approve before cutting, and what variation should I still expect?”

03 / EVERYDAY USE

Low maintenance still has limits.

Read the selected product’s instructions. The examples below are brand-specific, not a promise about every surface sold as quartz.

Can hot pans go straight on it?

Plan on heat protection. MSI tells Q owners to use trivets or hot pads under hot cookware and heat-producing appliances, including air fryers and slow cookers. Rapid temperature changes or sustained heating can crack the surface. MSI Q care guide (PDF).

What about a sunny room or patio?

Do not assume outdoor suitability. StratusQuartz’s care guide specifies indoor use and warns that direct sunlight can cause color change and warping. Describe the actual exposure and request product-specific guidance before selection. StratusQuartz care guide (PDF).

Does the finish change the work?

It can. Stratus says honed and leathered finishes need more daily care than polished ones and show marks more readily. Compare the finish you intend to buy, not just its color. StratusQuartz finish guidance (PDF).

Will I need to seal it?

MSI Q and StratusQuartz say no. That does not mean every cleaner is suitable. Obtain the approved cleaning instructions rather than transferring a natural-stone care routine to an engineered product. MSI Q · Stratus FAQ.

If your plan depends on direct heat, outdoor exposure or a particular cleaning product, settle that requirement before choosing the color.

DETAIL CHECK / THICKNESS & SEATING

Does a thicker-looking edge mean a thicker slab?

Record the slab thickness, visible edge and support assembly separately. They answer different questions. A deep-looking front edge is not enough information to compare construction or decide whether a seating overhang is supported.

Cambria’s thickness and edge guide lists several slab thicknesses and explains that a mitered edge can join pieces to create a heavier-looking profile. It also notes that available edge profiles can depend on thickness. Those are Cambria examples, not a specification for every quartz product or confirmation that a particular option is available in OKC.

Ask for a side view.

Have the provider identify the actual slab thickness, any edge build-up, the finished height and any substrate or supports. Ask how that assembly meets the existing backsplash, cabinet doors, drawers and appliance openings. Compare the same detail in both quotes.

Check the seating space.

Mark the proposed overhang and where supports would sit. Ask the responsible professional to check usable knee space, stool placement and circulation with the support design in place. A photograph of an apparently unsupported island is not a construction plan.

MSI’s Q installation guidance addresses cabinet readiness, perimeter support and overhang support. Have the fabricator use the current requirements for the exact product, thickness and layout, including cutouts and unsupported areas. This guide intentionally gives no universal maximum overhang or bracket spacing.

Before approval: get the support plan, who supplies and installs it, who prepares the cabinets, and the included cost in writing. Resolve an uncertain design before cutting. These are buyer questions, not DIY fabrication instructions or an engineering assessment.

04 / LOCAL SELECTION

Where can you see quartz in OKC?

These two official supplier routes help explain the handoff from selection to purchase. They are examples, not a ranking or a complete directory. Confirm visiting details and the exact product before traveling.

MSI Oklahoma City

MSI’s local showroom page lists quartz, product selection and samples. It says the showroom does not sell directly to the public or provide pricing; purchasing goes through dealers and retailers.

Your next step: ask the seller who will quote your job how to identify your selection and obtain an installed price.

Stratus Oklahoma City

Stratus’s local gallery page lists StratusQuartz and welcomes public viewing and selection. It says your chosen fabricator purchases the material and works with you on installation.

Your next step: confirm the exact slab, the fabricator’s role and any hold terms directly. We have not checked or reserved stock.

05 / WRITTEN SCOPE

What should a quartz quote identify?

There is no verified OKC quartz price range here. Before comparing totals, ask both sellers to price the same named product and finished work. Our original questions below help expose differences without pretending to estimate your room.

  1. Material and allowance. Is this exact color, finish and thickness priced? What changes if the layout needs another slab? Who owns any remaining material?
  2. Visual layout. Which seams, vein directions, edge profiles and backsplash or waterfall pieces are included? Who approves the layout before fabrication?
  3. Installation responsibility. Who performs final measurement and determines cabinet readiness, supports and cutouts under the product’s instructions? Do not use a rough sketch as a cutting plan.
  4. Price boundaries. Are template, fabrication, delivery and installation included? Which removal, disposal, plumbing, taxes or other required work is outside this total?
  5. Two different warranties. Ask for the manufacturer’s product warranty and the fabricator’s workmanship terms. Who handles a complaint, and what documents must you keep?

For the wider replacement project, use the complete cost and quote comparison guide. It covers cabinet, backsplash and sink decisions and helps keep unknown amounts visible.

DOCUMENT CHECK / WARRANTY

What does a quartz warranty cover, and who handles the rest?

Get both the product warranty and the fabricator’s workmanship terms. A manufacturer’s lifetime headline does not establish coverage for every seam, installation problem or accidental damage. Read the actual document for your product, purchase date and use of the property.

Cambria: check the scope, not just transferability.

Its Full Lifetime Warranty (PDF) covers manufacturing defects subject to its terms, transfers automatically to subsequent owners during the warranty period, and requires proper fabrication and interior installation by approved fabricators and installers. It excludes fabrication or installation quality and problems caused by inadequate support, among other exclusions. The document says not registering does not diminish warranty rights. That does not remove its other conditions.

MSI Q: check occupancy and registration.

MSI’s Residential Lifetime Warranty (PDF) is limited to the original purchaser; for a newly constructed home it identifies the original owner and resident and says coverage is non-transferable. It requires registration within 30 days of installation and excludes rentals and residences where the owner is not the occupant. A rental property needs the applicable commercial terms, not an assumption that residential coverage applies. MSI’s warranty document hub.

These examples were checked November 5, 2026 (UTC), not ranked as better or worse. Both documents contain further conditions, exclusions and claim procedures. Their deadlines also differ in wording: Cambria requires receipt of a claim within 30 days after learning the relevant facts; MSI requires contacting the seller or MSI within 30 days of failure. Read the full terms promptly if a problem appears.

  1. Before purchase: save the applicable warranty and care documents, confirm the seller/fabricator meets any manufacturer requirements, and ask for the separate workmanship coverage, exclusions and complaint contact.
  2. At completion: keep the invoice, exact product and thickness, installation date and provider details. Photograph the finished work and retain any registration confirmation. Registration is your separate action; this website does not register a purchase.
  3. If something goes wrong: record when it was noticed and contact the responsible party using the document’s procedure. Ask how inspection and any proposed repair should be handled before modifying the surface. This guide cannot decide whether a particular claim is covered.
